Customer Reviews

GERTBOARD - GERTDUINO - ARDUINO UNO COMPATIBLE I/O BOARD FOR RPI 5 5 1 1
Marriage of two of my favorites! This is my first experience with the works of Gert Van Loo and I am very impressed. I have been an aficionado of Arduino controllers for a while and always have used the Arduino IDE from one of my computers (Windows, Linux or Macintosh). There has always been that one more cumbersome step of making sure that the TTY port has the correct driver and that the correct board is chosen in the IDE. GertDuino marries the RPI board with the Arduino board using a direct electrical connection. Programming can take place with the RPI's C package and then flashed to the GertDuino board while still connected. No need to deal with drivers or TTY addresses. No version check for the Arduino IDE. It just basically works. Highly recommended! May 12, 2015

A:
The gertduino can be used standalone but then you need a development environment and a programmer so in the end it is easiest (and cheapest) to buy a Raspberry-Pi and a Gertduino.

Details:
Some pictures and documentation show this board with the 5V switching power supply section not populated.

Can you clarify if it is included or not ?

And if not, if there are any plans for having one version that includes the SPS ?

Thanks & Regards
Jorge

A:
Thanks TechGTC but your answer is not the response to my question.

Fortunately got a direct response from Gert Van Loo about the reason why the switching power supply is not populated.

You should change the picture on the product page since it shows a board with that section populated with all components and it may confuse (did it for me) some customers.

Jorge

A:
As the board does not have a separate supply the Vext is not connected. If you want it
connected you have to add the following components:
J1, L4 (or a short instead of L4), D20 (or a short instead of D20).

Answers

A:
Unfortunately you cannot run the IRDA interface from the battery as it uses too much current (~450 μA). You need the 5V supply present for it to operate
