The 40180 from Extech Instruments is a tone generator and amplifier probe kit. The tone generator and amplifier probe kit comprises of both a tone generator (transmitter) and a probe (receiver) in order to trace cables and conduct telecommunication tests such as line, continuity and tip/ring testing. The generator can be connected directly onto non-terminated cables or plugged into a telecoms system directly by using the supplied crocodile clips or RJ11/RJ45 connectors respectively. The receiver is insulated to prevent short circuits, whilst the speaker can be adjusted using a sensitivity dial.
