Description

Designed to plug on to the SPIO of your Raspberry Pi, allowing you to sense and control the real world. With PiFace Digital you can detect a state of a switch, for example from a door sensor, a pressure pad or any number of other switch types. Once this state has been detected, you can write your own software for Raspberry Pi that determines how to respond to that switch state. You can drive outputs to power motors, actuators, LEDs or anything you can imagine.

PiFace Control and Display - Review The PiFace Control and Display board comes shipped in an anti-static bag inside a small cardboard box. Mine arrived in perfect shape. The PiFace CAD is about 2.25" x 3.25" in size and consists of an LCD display board mounted on top of a bottom board that has most of the circuitry and buttons. On the lower edge of the bottom board, there are five momentary contact push buttons. On the top edge, there is a combined rocker switch and momentary contact push button. There is also an IR detector. The board fits on top of the Pi and has a plastic connector that slides onto the GPIO pins. Using 12v power

Details: 
If I am using an external 12 v DC power supply hooked up to the output ports, how would I need to configure the jumpers?

Answers

A: 
There are several jumpers on the PiFace board and these have the following purposes:
JP1 and JP2 - these jumpers set the board address so that up to four boards can be used.
JP3 - connects to the +5V rail on the Pi. When fitted, the PiFace board can be powered from the Pi, or vice versa. Without the jumper, both devices must be powered separately.
JP4 - connects the snubber diodes from the ULN2803A to 5V. However, if the open collectors are connected to >5V, JP4 must be removed.
JP5 and JP6 isolate the two relays K1 and K0 respectively from outputs 1 and 0.
JP7 - remove this to disconnect power to all on-board outputs, that is, disable the relays and LEDS.

Answers

A: 
The PiFace is built from commercial chips which are qualified to different temperature ranges, specified by the manufacturers being qualified from 0°C to 70°C, while the AP is qualified from -40°C to 85°C. You may well find that the board will work outside those temperatures, but we’re not qualifying the board itself to these extremes.
