Newark Producing Free On-Demand Lead-free Soldering Webinars

CHICAGO (August 22, 2005)

Original webinar series engages industry experts to help design and maintenance engineers comply with RoHS legislation

Newark, the leading small-quantity distributor of electronic components and test equipment in North America and a subsidiary of global Premier Farnell plc, is producing a three-part on-demand webinar series on lead-free soldering. The first webinar of the exclusive series, "Lead-free Soldering/Desoldering Issues," is available for viewing 24/7 at Newark's RoHS Express site at www.newark.ca/rohs. Co-presented by manufacturer TechSpray Plato, it runs 8 minutes.

Lead-free solder must be used in order to comply with the European Union's Restriction of certain Hazardous Substances (RoHS) directive, and requires using higher heat than tin/lead solder. Newark has developed this series to help design and maintenance engineers understand the important issues this raises, as well as assist with product selection.

"We are committed to helping our customers make the transition to RoHS compliance as easy as possible, and lead-free soldering has relevance for just about all of them," comments Paul Tallentire, president of Newark. "There is a real need for specifics, and we will continue to present real solutions on our RoHS Express site."

The other two soldering webinars in this series can be accessed at www.newark.ca/rohs in September. Manufacturer OK/Metcal will discuss "Lead-free Hand Soldering", and Kester will advise on "Lead-free Solder & Flux Selection".
