Circuit Protection - Transient Voltage Suppressors
A transient voltage suppressor or TVS is a collection of devices used to respond to sudden over-voltage. A transient voltage suppressor or TVS purpose is to react to an over-voltage faster than other protection devices such as varistors or gas discharge tubes. Since a TVS is faster than other protection components these are useful against fast and damaging voltage spikes caused by events such as lightening or motor arcing. These can be found in a variety of designs such as the transient voltage suppression diode and metal-oxide varistor (MOV).
