Product Overview

The LDC1000EVM is an evaluation module that demonstrates the use of inductive sensing technology to sense and measure the presence, position or composition of a conductive target object. The module includes an example of a PCB sensor coil. An MSP430 microcontroller is used to interface the LDC to a host computer. This module is designed to provide the user with maximum flexibility for system prototyping. It is perforated at two locations, one, between the PCB sensor coil (LC tank) and the LDC1000 IC and another, between the LDC1000 IC and the MSP430 interface. The first perforation gives the user the option to snap off the PCB coil from the module and experiment with custom sensor coils. The second perforation allows the user to connect the LDC1000 and sensor to a different microcontroller system or use multiple such sensors in one system.

TI LDC1000 Evaluation Module - Review The package says, connect the board, register at ti.com and explore. So I connected. It was detected and asked the usual search for drivers dialogue. I did this... Which failed. So next to TI's website, downloaded the software and installed. I should point out that I've installed it on both windows XP and 7, both with administrator rights Installation was easy but did throw up a compatability error, I clicked continue and it carried on installing. On installation finish the evaluation software opened but no connection. A quick unplug and plug back in of the module had it connect automatically and I was away. TI LDC1000 Evaluation Module - Review The LDC1000EVM board has proven that these devices are indeed micron accurate. They are sensitive to the selection of the actuator material, however given the programability of these devices the selection of the sensor can be simplified. I looked at the programming side of the software and was staggered at the options most of which I did not understand the significance of. If you are going to play with one of these sensors I would seriously suggest you study the options and what they do before you emabark upon your design.
