Newark element14 Introduces First Nanopower Sensor IC from Honeywell to its Product Portfolio

Industry’s first nanopower sensor ICs provide highest level of magnetic sensitivity

July 24, 2014 – CHICAGONewark element14 announces the addition of Honeywell’s Nanopower Anisotropic Magnetoresistive Sensor ICs to its product line today – the industry’s first of its kind. The new ICs provide the highest level of magnetic sensitivity, as low as 7 Gauss typical, while requiring nanopower up to 360 nA in value.

The new Nanopower Sensor ICs are smaller, more durable and more reliable than reed switches, operating with the same sensitivity for the same cost. Where previously only reed switches could be used, the new sensor ICs from Honeywell are ideal for battery-powered applications with low power requirements and large air gap needs.

The sensor ICs are designed for use in a wide range of battery-operated applications including water and gas meters, electricity meters, industrial smoke detectors, exercise equipment, security systems and scanners. They are also ideal for white goods such as dishwashers and refrigerators, medical equipment such as hospital beds and infusion pumps, and consumer electronics such as computers and tablets.

Omnipolarity allows the sensor ICs to be activated by either a north or south pole, eliminating the need to identify magnet polarity and reducing system cost by simplifying the installation process. The push-pull (CMOS) output does not require external resistors, making it easier and more cost-effective for engineers to operate. Electrical noise generated by the sensor is eliminated thanks to a non-chopper stabilized design. The subminiature SOT-23 surface mount package – supplied on both tape and reel – is smaller than most reed switches, allowing for use in automated pick-and-place component installation that reduces production costs.

The Nanopower Series are available for $0.80-$1.00 per unit through Newark element14. Customers can choose from two magnetic sensitivities: ultra-high sensitive SM351LT (7 Gauss typical operate, 11 Gauss maximum operate, 360nA current draw) and very high sensitivity SM353LT (14 Gauss typical operate, 20 Gauss maximum operate, 310 nA current draw). Both are the latest addition to an impressive line of durable, reliable switch and sensor solutions that combine Newark element14’s unmatched value-added services with the trusted expertise of the element14 Community.
