TI launches new low-cost DaVinci™ processor, evaluation module through Newark element14

New design solution to enable HD in low-power consumption applications available at

Newark element14 (, part of the global Premier Farnell Group, and a leading multi-channel, high-service electronics distributor supporting millions of engineers and purchasing professionals across the Americas, is pleased to announce that it will be among the first suppliers to stock Texas Instruments’ (TI) new DaVinci™ digital media processors with ARM host control and complete development tools, developed to meet the growth in portable, high definition (HD) video applications.

More than enabling HD video, the new processor provides double the battery life of today’s HD products. Ideal for low-power applications such as digital and IP video cameras, digital photo frames and video baby monitors, the processor consists of an integrated video processing subsystem (the same as on all DaVinci devices), an MPEG-4-JPEG co-processor, an ARM926EJ-S core and peripherals.

Applications such as medical imaging products, ultra-low-cost digital video recorders and portable test equipment will also benefit from the use of this technology.

The corresponding development tools, the DM355 Digital Video Evaluation Module, will help designers quickly and easily create low-cost portable, digital video devices with video capability. Coupled with the tools and support included in the full DaVinci technology portfolio, product designers can save months of time.

“We’re pleased to be among the first distributors to offer design engineers a low-cost, low-power solution to add HD video functionality, comments Paul Buckley, Senior VP, Product and Supplier Marketing, Newark element14. Our customers can continue to expect to find the latest technology products on our website.”

Application notes and full details are located at Customers can place their orders now for the DM355 Evaluation Module, or request email notification when stock arrives in early October.
