MULTICOMP - R13-509A-05-BR - SWITCH, PUSHBUTTON, SPST, 3A, 125V 5 5 1 1
Pushbutton (Multicomp R13-509A-05-BR) I recently purchased a glider from Europe; the top of the flight stick came with a machined aluminum cap with a threaded cutout for a radio push-to-talk switch. It was surprisingly difficult to locate a metric 7mm pushbutton switch with M7x0.75 fine thread, that is, until my search led me to Newark Element14's website; upon searching for pushbuttons, this product was the first to populate among the listing of 1753 such products (homerun). The pushbutton case is made of high quality nylon, so tough in fact, that when it became necessary to enlarge the clearance fit, it proved far easier to enlarge the inner diameter of the machined aluminum cap with abrasives than it was to reduce the widest outside diameter of the pushbutton. After that, the 7mm fine threaded top of the pushbutton was a perfect fit, and the 6mm button head a perfect clearance fit to the 6.3mm cutout in the aluminum cap. The button head has a hard high-gloss finish all around with no casting spur scars or flash remnants. Actuation of the button head is smooth and makes contact at the bottom of a 0.1in throw. On the bottom of the pushbutton, solder lugs are resin sealed to the body. At a unit price of $1.68 apiece, these units are an excellent value, so much so, I purchased twice in excess of my need, and then in both available button head colors (red & black--I'd have bought green if that were offered too). Based on my observations of Multicomp's high quality of construction and attention to fine details, I have little doubt these pushbuttons will perform well in operational service in the demanding flying environment, where function and reliability are key attributes.
