Product Overview

The XTRINSIC-SENSORS-EVK is an evaluation kit that comes with a sensor board together with the FRDM-KL25Z platform. The software drivers and code enable engineers to easily evaluate and demonstrate the performance of the sensors in a variety of applications. The sensor board comes equipped with three of new generation XTRINSIC MEMS sensors. The MPL3115 is designed for accurate measurement of altitude and pressure, the MAG3110 for detection of magnetic fields, and the MMA8491 for measurement of physical positions. The FRDM-KL25Z features a KL25Z128VLK a KL2 family device boasting a max operating frequency of 48MHz, 128KB of flash, a full speed USB controller and loads of analog and digital peripherals. The FRDM-KL25Z has an easy access to MCU I/O via Arduino R3 compatible I/O connectors. The freedom board also features a programmable OpenSDA debug interface.
  • MPL3115A2 is a highly precise altitude and pressure sensor
  • Pressure range from 20kPa to 110kPa
  • Less than 1foot/0.3m resolution
  • MAG3110 is a low power digital 3D magnetic sensor
  • Measuring local magnetic fields up to 10Gauss
  • MMA8491Q is a 3 axis accelerometer
  • Ultra low power tamper detection and tilt sensor
  • FRDM-KL25Z is a freedom development platform
  • Host platform for the Xtrinsic sensors based on the Kinetis KL25z MCU

Customer Reviews

FREESCALE SEMICONDUCTOR - XTRINSIC-SENSORS-EVK - EVAL KIT, XTRINSIC SENSOR + KL25 BRD-Review My initial thought of the product excited me. I thought it would be interesting to have a magnetometer (MAG3110), the pressure sensor (MPL3115) and an accelerometer (MAA849) on one board. My students and I did about 7 proofs of concept projects. We did not tie it into other projects or boards but used it as a quick and dirty method of learning code. The general consensus of the class is that the board is easy to use but it has an extreme lack of documentation. We feel this product can be a fun board for the hobbyist but found the lack I/O headers on J1 and J10 connectors made it rather cumbersome for any non permanent designs. PRO: Very easy to use The driver software is stored on the board Great for proof of concept designs CON: Lack of documentation Read More: http://www.element14.com/community/roadTestReviews/1634 May 16, 2014
Evaluation Kit for Freescale Xtrinsic Sensors - Review The Evaluation Kit for Xtrinsic Sensors is a surprisingly inexpensive, easy-to-use and flexible board. At $26.99 the pricing is great but if you are interested in using just the MMA8491Q and MAG3110 with a Kinetis-L processor you might want to consider FRDM-KL46Z which has both these senors on the dev board itself and cost about $15. Freedom KL25Z is an ARM based development board which has standard serial interface (UART, SPI, I2C) through which BLE modules can be communicated, moreover this board is having Arduino compatible headers through which you can connect standard Arduino Bluetooth shields.

Optional available development kit like Newark part #45W4116 is the Demo Plug-In for Bluetooth® Low Energy, It's a complete BLE radio module solution with an on–board antenna.
For more details please visit Freescale link:

Also can check for Newark part # 95W3994 which is TiWi-BLE Bluetooth and WiFi module.
