CY8CKIT-042 is a PSoC 4 Pioneer kit designed as an easy to use and inexpensive development kit, showcasing the unique flexibility of the PSoC 4 architecture. The kit is based on the PSoC 4200 device family, delivering a programmable platform for a wide range of embedded applications. The PSoC 4 is a scalable and reconfigurable platform architecture for a family of mixed signal programmable embedded system controllers with an ARM Cortex-M0 CPU. It combines programmable and reconfigurable analogue and digital blocks with flexible automatic routing. Designed for flexibility, this kit offers footprint compatibility with several third party Arduino shields. This kit has a provision to populate an extra header to support Digilent Pmod peripheral modules. In addition, the board features a CapSense slider, an RGB LED, a push button switch, an integrated USB programmer, a program and debug header, and USB UART/I2C bridges. This kit supports either 5V or 3.3V as power supply voltages.

Very powerful little dev kit. Google 100 projects in 100 days for the pioneer hosted by element 14, those projects will show you the capabilities of this board. The IDE is free and without limitations unlike other vendors. Cypress keeps on amazing me with their PSoC series, this board is focused towards the PSoC 4 but it does have a PSoC 5LP as the programmer and you actually can use that 2nd processor. This is a great board to familiarize yourself with the PSoC architecture that goes beyond the Arm Cortex M0, it´s like the perfect combination of a MCU level Arm with programmable digital and analog blocks. Only device that will surpass it is the prototype boards that are cheaper, but I would recommend this one first because it can be modified to program other PSoC chips instead of using Cypress´s miniprog 3. Newer prototyping boards will be out soon featuring the PSoC 5LP as well as their PSoC/PRoC 4 BLE dev boards. April 11, 2015

Cypress PsoC4 Pioneer Kit: Further Blurring The Line Between Analog and Digital Based on these specs, the programmable op amp blocks included in the 4200 design will do a great job with competing with stand-alone devices. What sort of designs would need analog inputs? Gaining up an audio signal, or accurately measuring any signal that may be close to ground are a couple of examples. Now that it looks like a reasonable part, time to start building to uncover the real power of the programmable feature! Of course, since this is a new platform a new user might not find many projects to explore the system with.
