Product Overview

The CHIPKIT PI is an Arduino compatible chipKIT platform specially designed for Raspberry based on 32bit PIC32MX250F128B microcontroller. The board is supported by the free chipKIT multi platform IDE (MPIDE) that can be hosted on the Raspberry Pi and allows users to create, compile and program Arduino sketch based chipKIT applications within the Raspberry Pi operating system. The CHIPKIT PI is the world's first to enable the development of 3.3V Arduino compatible applications for the Raspberry Pi using a 32bit, high performance PIC32 MCU in a prototyping friendly package. It can interface directly to the Raspberry Pi I/O expansion header without any additional components, reducing both cost and design complexity.
  • Designed exclusively for the Raspberry Pi and Arduino ecosystems
  • Supports the chipKIT multi platform IDE (MPIDE)
  • MPIDE is open source and compatible with Arduino programming language and development environment
  • Create, compile and program Arduino sketch based chipKIT applications within Raspberry Pi OS
  • Enables the development of 3.3V Arduino compatible applications for the Raspberry Pi using PIC32 MCU
  • USB, ICSP and JTAG connectors for maximum compatibility

Applications

Sensing & Instrumentation; Audio; Signal Processing; Embedded Design & Development
Do not connect or disconnect chipKIT Pi from the Raspberry Pi or accessories while connected to a power supply.

CHIPKIT - CHIPKIT PI - DEV BOARD, PIC32, CHIPKIT PI, FOR RASPBERRY PI 5 5 2 2
chipKIT™ Pi - Review Overall, the chipKIT Pi gives added use to the Raspberry Pi which is something it needs. The chipKIT excels at flexibility of use with jumper selectable options, and has the ability of being a powerful I/O interface given the use of the PIC processor. The PIC processor also has more memory and some handy integrated peripherals that allow the user to create some advanced projects a bit more easily than with Arduino. chipKIT™ Pi - Review chipKIT Pi is a great board for including Raspberry Pi to real-life hacks. It can be used with an battery or an unregulated AC-DC adapter which makes it the perfect companion for my projects. Also, using Arduino environment for basic I/O tasks eases the development, compared to Raspberrys Pi I/O pins. However, lack of mounting holes limits the application areas in robotics. I think this is the only real flaw of the card (personal opinion :)). The voltage regulator problem can be resolved by switching it with another IC or with a breakout board with a better voltage regulator. A:
We have an image with the MPIDE software pre-installed available on our community site (http://www.element14.com/community/...). However, MPIDE can also be downloaded directly from ChipKit’s site (http://chipkit.net/started/install-...). They have versions for windows, Linux, Apple, and Raspberry Pi.

A:
Yes, however this will have to be done through your computer as MPLAB is not compatible with MPIDE or the Raspberry PI. ChipKit has instructions on how to do that using MPLAB X located here

A:
if you've used an SD Card before with other projects you may need to reformat your SD card to free up the space. To do this, download SD Formatter 4.0 (click here) from the SD association. This will completely wipe the old information off of your SD card so be sure to back up anything you want saved first. After this is done you should be able to write the new image to your card.

A:
In addition to the Arudino shield headers there is: USB, ICSP, JTAG, and SPI. You may have to adjust a jumper to switch between some of the I/O types (see the quick start guide).
